To Alice Hanna:

As I noted in my earlier response, it's possible your Amy Knorr was an older sister of my grandfather, Roy William Knorr.

In reference to your family folklore about Dutch descent, the wife of William Knorr (Roy and Amy's grandfather) may or may not have been a Mary Magdelene Diehl. There is some indication a woman of that name was married to a John Knorr, instead. Whatever the case, it is also folklore in my mother's family that William's wife was "Holland Dutch." I suppose that was to distinguish her from "Pennsylvania Dutch" (usually German Amish), who were also common in Pennsylvania.

William and his wife and family moved from Pennsylvania to a new home south of Springfield, Illinois. It is said they separated late in life (by choice, rather than the death of one of them). Whatever happened, William came alone to Hastings, Nebraska, to live with his son, Jonathan Knorr.

I hope this is helpful.
