Honorably dischared at New Creek, WV on Feb 12, 1864; discharged from volunteer brigade on May 29, 1865 by reason of telegram from the War Department. Rank in service: Private.

Lived in Cumberland, MD for about 1 year after discharge. Lived in Chicago, IL for 15 months from Nov 1876 to 1877.

1890 Philadelphia City Directory lists occupation as music teacher at 1512 Chestnut. Lists wife's profession as artist at same work address. Lists Mary W. Holmes as artists at same work and home addresses. Lists 3 others living at 1926 Mount Vernon: Hermann Holmes (carpenter), George W. Holmes, and James H. Anderson (bookeeper).

He married ELLEN MARIA WILLIAMSON 24 December 1863 in Cumberland, Maryland14, daughter of ISAAC WILLIAMSON and ELIZABETH ELLIOTT. She was born 24 March 1843 in Baltimore, Maryland, and died 13 December 1915 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania15.

Served in Union Army in 2nd Potomac Home Bridage Maryland Infantry. Entered as Private; discharged as corporal.

Civil War Pension record lists the following individuals as references for Joseph Park Knorr & Ella Knorr: Robert F. Fisher (knew both since 1888); George T.R. Knorr (knew Ella since 1859); Jeanet Eckert (sister of Josephl knew Ella since 1859); Joseph Fisher (knew Joseph since 1889; Joseph F. Calby (knew Joseph since 1882).

1893 evaluation describes "several small protruding piles and prolapsus of anus forming a mass size of small orange i.e. 1 1/2 inches in diameter, beding on manipulation, not ulcerated by very painful. Mass cannot be reduced excepting by an operation."

Family legend holds that Ellen Williamson is a relative of Hugh Williamson, signer of Constitution and first North Carolina Representative to the U.S. Congress.

Funeral services for James Benner (Jimmy) Jackson, former American and National League outfielder in the early part of the century will be held tomorrow at 2 pm at his late residence, 5640 Carpenter Street. Mr. Jackson died Sunday. He was 76. Burial will be in Arlington Cemetary. He was in the real estate business. Jackson started his baseball careet on the lots in South Philadelphia. He joined the Baltimore American League club in 1901, went to the New York Giants in 1902 and was back in the American League again, this time with Cleveland for the seasons of 1905 and 1906.
