My name is Wm. Frost Mobley and and my Great Grand Father was a Knopf on my mothers side. My Grandmother, born Charlotta Knopf and married Hugh Miller in NYC. According to the Knopf family history, they lived in a five story brownstone on the west side of NYC, there were five children, three girls and two boys. One of the sons was Rudolf Knopf who later moved to Clinton Conn were he was the postmaster until retirement in the 1970's. I was always told that my Great Grandfather owned a succesfull company that sold Blacking and Shoe Polish with their factory in NJ where he helped build this small town and had named five of the major streets after his five children. I'm trying to locate that town. I've recently uncovered an advertising card from 1895 with the name FELIX FOURNIER & KNOPF, NY, Importers and Exporters, NY & Paris. This is first time I've seen any advertising for a company named KNOPF. If there are any other Knopf relatives that think this particular Knopf NY family sounds related please contact me. Postscript: another story told to me about the Knopf family from Rudolf Knopf was that their father was very wealthy and took the entire family to France every summer up until Rudoplf was 21 years old, all five children were attented by single maid staff Rudoplf even told me that he didn't even know how to dress himself until his father died and the children were on their own. I will appreciate any family history.
