I have a wooden silverware tray with a sturdy handle about 90-100 years old - and on the bottom is handwritten "Grandpa Knittel made this for Grandma when they lived out where Uncle Pete & Aunt Antoinette lived on the farm where Roy & Toots Rathman live now. There were 2 boys Pete & John & 6 girls Mathilda, Elizabeth, Kathryn, Laura, Anna & Magdalene." This tray is in great condition and it belongs back with family members. I checked 1880 census and found the family in Pilot (Kankakee Co.) IL and it shows the names of the children who are named on the tray. 1900 census shows John was born Jun 1837 and wife Stephany in Aug 1845, both in Germany.
