I think you're probably right, I've been researching Knipe name in the UK. I think perhaps that a Knipe went to the US from England & founded one side & a Neipe went over from Germany (or the low countries) & founded the another branch, & that the the German branch's name changed , thats why the're are so many different versions such as Canipe etc. The Knipe name is the UK over the centuries has had many varients such as Nype, Nipe, Neip, Knip, etc. I know of at least one Knipe that went over & founded one branch in the US. He was originally from the Lake District area. Perhaps if other people respond to this & say where their part of the Knipe family is from, a list could be formed of the branches & whether the're Uk or Gmny.
