Miranda Knighten was my great grandmother. She was married to Jerry Knighten and had 2 sons, William Andrew and Oscar. She then married Jesse Jackson Knighten. She then married a Fitzhugh. There are numerous Billingsley's and Knighten's in Little River County. My father was William James, a son of William Andrew and Miranda. I do not know if Miranda was Indian. My grandfather always said we were "English, Irish, and German Dutch" and that we did not have any Indian in us. There are also stories of one of the Knighten's getting his wife from an Indian reservation in OK. This would fit some of the Cherokees trying to "pass" as white.
