My records show Joseph Richard Kniffin was born Abt. 1810 in Rye, Westchester Co. NY, and died Abt. 12-6-1884. He married Charlotte Whelroy (or McElroy) Humphries Hank 1-26-1841 in Pulaski Co. AK, daughter of John Humphries and Piety Rains. She was born 5-16-1815 in NC or SC, and died 3-11-1899 her niece's home, Virginia Davis, According to family legend Joseph was a descendent of George Knifton who arrived in Stratford, Connecticut in 1650. In a court document in 1682 he stated he was born in 1632. Joseph & Charlotte had 5 children. If you want more info please contact me. No one seems to know Joseph's parents
One record shows Charlotte married Calvin Jones Hanks 1-9-1834 in GA with a son Calvin Jones Hank b.12-16-1834.Another record shows she married Nathan Calvin Hanks born 1-18-1808 and died in Clarkesville, Habvershaw, GA.
