john jay kneeland and his brother philip, were orphaned when their parents were killed in an accident ±1850. family lore has it that father's name was john, mother, mary herbert (ireland). cannot find any record of marriage or when they came to this country.
john jay born in lucas county, ohio ±1836. civil war records show he was in the Illinois 23rd, co. C. Also in the Massachusetts 59th co F. pension certificate #468881. he is not listed in the 7 centuries of the kneelands.
i have been to the Toledo court house,in their log book, they have a petition dated Aug 9, 1856 for the guardianship of Philip and john kneeland, minor heirs of Thomas Kneland of lucas county, to catharine maria kneland. all of the original papers in Box 39 could not be found.
