1654 map of Kneelandtoun which is now Cleland village, Scotland

Goto http://www.nls.uk/digitallibrary/map/early/blaeu/96.html

Click on the map and it will load up in its own window. It's worthwhile downloading the plug-in so that you can "View with plug-in", as this lets you zoom into the map better.

Now the tricky bit. Just above halfway down the map, on the right-hand-side of the page, are two blue lochs, with a hill below the first loch. Zoom from the hill across to the blue River Clyde which runs down near the middle of the page.

In the centre of the zoom is Kneelandtoun and Kneelandtounhead. Overtime, Kneeland would become the village of Cleland!
