Mrs Kidder's "impossible" remark sounds very final, I agree.

The implication of her passing comment would be EITHER that Samuel KNEELAND the printer was apprenticed to Bartholomew GREEN but Bartholomew GREEN was not his uncle, and Samuel was not the grandson of the printer Samuel Green, Sr ...

Or that Samuel KNEELAND the printer was still the grandson of the printer Samuel Green, Sr, etc. but that his mother was not the said Mary GREEN ...

Or that Samuel KNEELAND was the the grandson of the printer Samuel Green, Sr, etc. but that his faer was not the said John-3 KNEELAND ...

[Or different reading of text to give that "investigation proves impossible" rather than "investigation proves *that* impossible". She said the latter, to be sure.]
