Vital Records of Sturbridge Massachusetts to the Year 1850, page 77 (reprint page 19) has "Ruth, d. Joseph and Ruth, Mar 3, 1778 in Fitchwilliam" as one of 8 children in that Kneeland family (4 listed as in Fitchwilliam, 1 as in Holland, and the last 3 unqualified). Ruth is a sister of Joseph Hartwell Kneeland whose family is the subject of several other posts on this message board. Fitchwilliam has generally been equated to to Fitzwilliam, NH (probably starting with SFK), but I'm leaning toward the belief that this is a misinterpretation and that Fitchwilliam was a small area somewhere near Sturbridge, MA that does not show on modern maps. Also, while several of the siblings are known to have ended up in the Hartford, VT area, at least one brother is know to have been married down in CT and there may be some confusion between Hartford CT and Hartford VT. Father's lineage known for several generations back, mother's is still uncertain I think. Hope this helps. Would appreciate if you could email me with info on Ruth's descendents.
