Has anyone made any further progress on Hiram's ancestry?
I've found an (as yet) unrelated Kneeland - Ross connection.I first found:
Under ROSS
Kneeland, s. Jabez and Joanna, Apr. 3, 1748. P.R. 90.
in the Ipswich birth record index (on line at http://john-slaughter.rootsweb.com/VitalRecords/Ipswich_index.html)http://john-slaughter.rootsweb.com/VitalRecords/Ipswich_index.html).I also found the birth entries for the parents:
Under NEALAND
Joanna, d. Edward and Ruth, bp. 2: 1 m: 1718.
[b. Feb. 23. P.R. 90.]
and
Under ROSS
Jabez (adult), s. John, bp. Mar. 17, 1727.
[b. Oct. 10, 1705. P.R. 90.]
There are also records for 14 other children of Jabez and Joana. The P.R. 90 is a reference to a Ross family bible reportedly now held by Miss Lizette S. Ross.
There is also an entry in the Ipswich birth record index for Kneeland Ross' son Adam, baptized Oct. 4, 1778.The Ispwich marriage records are not yet online.By the 1790 census, Kneeland Ross is in NH, apparently with an additional son and 2 daughters. http://iamnow.net/gould/brd/1790Washingtoncn.htmhttp://iamnow.net/gould/brd/1790Washingtoncn.htm
The SFK genealogy shows Joanna as the daughter of Edward Kneeland [no birth date, but would be about 1695], son of John Kneeland(1670), son of Edward Kneeland(1640).Joanna has several brothers and sisters, but there is no further info on any of them.
While SFK failed to track these folks, at least someone in the Ross line has been.In the www.familysearch.org database there is an entry for Neeland Ross m. 17 June 1777 to Anna Porter in Ipswich, plus others (eg. can track 4 generations of Jabez Ross - latter ones say Rowley or Newbury MA).
The bottom line is that if there is a Kneeland Ross, there may also be a Ross Kneeland (and Mary be of another maiden name). There are several Kneelands of the time who are unaccounted for, Joanna's brother(s) (and the sons of Philip [3d]- discussed in another posting) may have married another of the Ross clan and named a son accordingly, or just because they were connected to the Ross' through Joanna.
VR's for Newbury, Rowley, and other area towns (eg Topsfield - another Kneeland hotspot) are not on-line yet - that I know of.Perhaps someone who has access to hard-copy could follow up.
