Abraham ZERFASS, was born 27 Nov 1772 in Whitehall,Northampton Co.,PA, the son of Adam Zerfass, who was in the French and Indian War and a Captain in the Revolutionary War and participated in the battles of Germantown and Brandywine. Even after the close of the war Adam was engaged in Indian fighting on the frontier. His son Abraham married Hannah Knause, daughter of Gottfried Knause, also a Captain in the Revolution from Pennsylvania. Abraham and his wife came to the Dansville area about 1813 where he was engaged in farming. They had twelve children. His eldest daughter, Elizabeth, married Henry Hartman, a son of Harmon Hartman, a Revolutionary War soldier and early settler of Dansville, who died in 1811. Abraham was guadian of a few of the younger children of the said Harmon Hartman. Abraham lived with his family in Dansville where the name of Zerfass Road crosses the valley in the northern section of the town. Abraham died 17 Dec 1837 in Dansville. His wife and eldest daughter died within 2 days of each other in February 1845, of malignant erysipelas. The Zerfass' are buried at the Greenmount Cemetery next to Hartman's.(Contributed by: Andrew Burdett)
