I recently found court papers in the State of Maryland Archives that show my GGGrandfather Edward Betts went to work for Knabe & Gaehle Piano Co. (William Knabe and Henry Gaehle) in 1847 and became a partner in the firm in 1851, then called Knabe, Gaehle & Co. The partnership was dissolved in a lawsuit in 1855, Gaehle died in 1855, and William Knabe then went on with his Wm. Knabe & Co. making pianos.
