Michelle, I have been searching a microfilm of muster rolls in the area where our Gustav Christian Knaack and Friederike Sund were from. The earlier recores were obtained by door to door census. The later ones were taken from birth records in attempt to see who might be elligible for military service. Because they were so thorough, I was able to piece together two families of Knaacks (Knaak) that were concurent with ours. Do you recognize any of these names?
Johann Nicolaus Knaak, 1814; wife Johanna Friederiki Loffellier (or something like that). He had a brother, Christian,Carl 1821, and a son August Carl Theador Knaack, 1846(notice the spelling was interchanged in the same families.
Johann Philipp Knaack, 1803; married to Anna Elizabeth something, something. Their son was Carl Johann Friederich Knaak, 1836; married to Sophia Friederika Kunkel. They had two sons that I could find, Ernst Friederich Christian Knaak, 1867 and Carl Johann Wilhelm Knaak 1863.
I don't know if these guys are related to us, but Johann Nicolaus and Johann Philipp would have been about the same generation as Gustav. Gustav and Johann Nicolaus were both day-laborers. Carl Johann from the other family was 5 years older than my Johann Joachim Theador (alias John Everett in America). I was interested to note that they were both journeyman bricklayers.
If you or anyone else recognizes these names, contact me, and I can send photocopies. They are quite informative for someone's genealogy.
