I'm a Kloberdanz decedant, through the adoption of my Grandmother, Rose Barbarba Kloberdanz, by Jacob and Barbara Kloberdanz.

I'm also trying to piece the details together.

What I've learned is this:

My grandmother, Rosa Liberto, was delivered to the Foundling Home of the sisters of Charity in New York when she was 5 days old. A week later she was baptized at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York (April 12, 1901).

The conditions of her becoming an orphan seem to be that her mother died bringing her into the world, shortly after their arrival from Italy, and in his grief, her father decided he could not raise her alone.

Just before she was 3 years old, with her cardboard suitcase, she boarded the Orphan Train in New York to go west.

In either western Kansas or in eastern Colorado, she was chosen to be the daughter of Jacob and Barbara Kloberdanz -I believe they were from eastern Colorado at the time, (Sterling?)

Some Orphan Train records confirm that Rosa Alberta (mis-spelled version of Liberto) was adopted in 1903 by the Kloberdanz family at St. Peter Parrish in (Hays) Ellis County, Kansas.

My mother remembers going to Osage, Iowa in the summers to visit her grandparents.

I've also seen records that indicate that Jacob Kloberdanz, John Kloberdanz and Peter Kloberdanz lived in Topeka and worked for the AT&SF Shops (Car Service and Repair), in 1912.

(I know my grandma grew up and went to school in Topeka - so they must have moved from Sterling, CO shortly after her adoption.)

If you have any other details about this, please let me know.
