Klingensmith, Ronald / Pennsylvania, Westphalia, Denmark?
Trying to find out if the last name is German or Danish.
Based on research, the name can translate to both German and Danish, both meaning "blade maker" or "blade smith," etc.
Further research indicates that some of the first Klingensmith settlers reached Pennsylvania in the 1700s, and had emigrated from Germany (including Leipsig, Germany, which was a part of Westphalia at the time). Westphalia has records of Saxon invaders from the north, and that could possibly be Danish Saxons.
I have heard everything from the 1700s to the present, including all the Native American tales and such. I'm strictly interested in what happened before that, in Westphalia, holding onto the hope that the surname could indeed be originally Danish, and not German, where most research begins.
Anything would be appreciated. Thank you!
