Tony and Donna,
I am also a descendant of Emily Kling ofMontague, Muskegon, MI 1880 . I thought I had a list of a nearly complete list of descendants but seem to be missing you. Her son Edward Peter Kling is my great grandfather.
I do have a bit more information on her, though I also am just beginning to try to trace her back to Prussia.
Her son Paul's death certificate lists her maiden name as Amelia Kander. She seems to have used Amelia and Emily both as a first name. Various other family references had her maiden name as Kunder or Gunter, but Paul's death certificate information was likely provided by his surviving wife who lived with her mother-in-law for many years and so likely knew her maiden name.
Later census records provide more information on her:
1900 Census Muskegon County Montague Township, Montague, Muskegon County, MI, Name Emily Kling widowed, Mother of 7 children 3 still living, Immigrated to US in 1848, Owned home (not farm) without mortgage
1910 Census Muskegon County Montague Township, 1910 Census seems to say divorced (not widowed) , immigration as 1845,living with son Paul and daughter in law Mary.
So I am starting to look for an Amelia Kander who emigrated from Prussia in 1845-8 when she was a small child.
I can find no trace of her husband Matthew except that he was born in Bavaria. I wrote to Milwakee but they could not find their oldest son Paul's birth certificate. Some census records clearly list her as widowed, some others seems to say divorced.
I'd appreciate any clues on finding Matthew Kling or Amelia Kander Kling's immigration or ancestors.
