Klett Surname DNA Project
Dear Klett Message Board Member:
You will be interested to know that I have just established, at FamilyTreeDNA.com, a Klett Surname DNA Project (y-chromosome testing). As you probably know, the Klett surname is found throughout Germany. My own lineage come from Suhl, in Thueringen (formerly Prussia). A recently discovered distant cousin of mine in Germany will hopefully be joining the project soon, and soliciting participation in it by Klett researchers in Europe.
The project seeks to analyze patrilineal genetics for anyone with the surname Klett--possibly linking groups of Kletts from different parts of Germany and/or establishing the likely place of origin for Klett immigrants whose birthplace is unknown or undocumented in American sources. The test is simple (a cheek swabbing), and relatively inexpensive. Please check out the project here:

Y-chromosome testing is, of course, male specific; so female Klett descendants would have to ask a brother or paternal male cousin to participate in order to establish the DNA sequence for her branch of Kletts. The more markers tested, the better (ideally 67, the maximum). The cost of the test kit increases based on the number of markers. However, a discount is given to anyone joining a surname project.
I hope you will consider joining the project. As a genealogist for over 30 years, and as a genealogical author, editor and archivist, I am very excited to serve as project administrator. In case you have any questions relative to project's validity, please do not hesitate to contact me by e-mail or look into my credentials in connection with New Jersey State Archives or the Genealogical Society of New Jersey.
Hope you'll join!
