Hi!
There are two different Kleiner families. One is of Swiss-Southern German origin and the other is a Jewish family.

Many of the Swiss-Germans of the time were mercenaries as well as skilled craftsmen who often migrated back and forth throughout Europe. The Jewish families tended to remain in tight little groups in various ghettos in European cities. So, if your ancestors were migrating and you cannot seem to locate them you had better search the military records and other records in Switzerland where most of them originated from being mercenaries. One of the Swiss fellows was working for the Csar of Russia at the royal mint for a time to give you an idea of how far they traveled.
