Here is my Kleinegger story:
I was born in 1935 in Hartberg a small town in Austria near the Hungarian
border.
I have two sons, Herbert Jr. and Steven. Both boys are married, my oldest
son Herbert
made me a grandfather twice. A granddaughter 4 years old and a grandson 9
months.
Son number two has no children.
I have an older sister who is going to be seventy years tomorrow, and has
three children
and an older brother who is 67 and has two daughters.
As you can see we are no youngsters, but our mother is still alive and
kicking. As long as
you giver her, the daily manhatten and cognac, she is happy. On November 18,
we are going
to celebrate her 97 birthday. Her life is another story.
My mother came from Germany to the US on or about 1926 an met my father who
came from
Hartberg Austria here in the US, a place called the Bronx New York. Used to
be a nice place.
Both my brother and sister where born here, my father moved the whole family
back to Austria
in 1933, in order to take over the business from my grandfather. As history
goes, a little guy
with a mustache came along, war started, my father went to war and never
came back.
As the war ended, needless to say, life was not very good. My mother found
it to the best interest
of her children, namely my brother and sister, to send them to the US to
live with an aunt. They where
American Citizen. That was in 1946. My mother and I where hoping we could
join them soon,
but it was not to be. We finally received a Visa to come to the US in 1951.
And we have lived here
happily ever since. Well, let me put it this way, we are still alive.
There are no other male Kleineggers of my family alive in Austria. My sons
are the last of the I guess
we might call it the Austrian Clan Kleineggers alive.
Someday I going to write the story of my mothers life.
