Ah, I see.
Using that list, your wife's family and my husband's family are NOT related
on this side of the Antlantic ocean.
I assume you want to go further back if possible.
I can make some generic suggestions as what to do next. If you don't need them, I will shut up. If you are a genealogical newbie looking for basic "What do I do now" suggestions, feel free to ask and send more details.
There was/is an upstate New York family of Kitts. There is no question that a Peter Kitts settled around Montgomery County NY in the early 1700s. He may have been Dutch (not too likely). He may have been English, from Devonshire. He may have come from the Germanic Duchy of Württemberg.
What little I know about this family does not show the given name Michael being a family tradition.
My point is, it is a relatively short step from upstate NY to Canada.
Here are some more Michael Kitts individuals that I know about. These are not my husband's ancestors.
Michael Kitts made purchases for General George Washington's army in 1779 1n 1780 in Philadelphia. He had brother George. This Michael may possibly be from the New Jersey Kitts family. (A Michael Kitts was part of the Philadelphia Militia during and after the Revolutionary War.)
The Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography mentions Michael Kitts (1756-1806), living on Market Stree South in Philadelphia PA. He was a tavern keeper.
He married Margaretta Cope. (My line goes back to Oliver Cope wo arrived in the 1600's)
That Michael had daughter Maria m. John Kern in 1804 and son Michael m. Sarah Schewerman (spelling?) in 1807.
Michael Kitz m. Catharine. Their daughter, Rebecca Kitz was born 1862 in Salem County New Jersy.
I have short notes on several Henry Kitts. Two of them were in the upstate NY (Gourvenour) area.
You have what sounds like very good places in Canada but rather weak dates for michael and Henry. I would suggest trying to follow Gerald Kitts, in Cornwall, Ontario back. The Canadian census for 1891, 1881, 1871 might show Henry and Michael.
Good Luck,
Maggie Kitts
