Paul,
Thankyou for your reply with so much new information for me.
My interest in Hannah Kittle stems from the fact that my family has become a haven for all the old photos, etc.
Because of these photos, some of which are identified, many are not, I had thought to compile a little history on each family and place it in an album.
I am related to Hannah in three ways:
Her oldest brother William Hayes married an Alice McLelland, she is sister to James McLelland, see below.
My greatgrandmother,(paternal) was Rebecca Margaret Hayes who married James McLelland. They had 11 children. My grandfather (Robert) George McLelland was the sixth.
My greatgrandmother, (maternal) was Mary Suzanne Hayes who married Archie McCaughan. They had 6 children. My grandmother (Minnie) Alma (Teresa) was the third child. she married George McLelland. My grandparents were first cousins which sometimes makes things more or less difficult.
I have virtually nothing on the Kittle family other than
Hannah married Elon and they had two children, James and Harold ( I suspect that your Robert H is my Harold - can you confirm).Through family stories I knew they had settled in the Syracuse, New York area. However, I did not know they had a daughter.I do have a family photo taken in Ottawa of Elon, Hannah and the two boys. The oldest boy looks to be about 7 or 8, still wearing short pants.I expect that you have this photo - but if you don't I would be happy to share.
However, I had assumed they were in New York earlier than
1923, because I have at least one photo taken in Syracuse before 1912. My photo is of James Edwin McLelland as a young man and he died in 1912 as is buried at Elkhorn, Manitoba. There must be another connection to Syracuse as well as the Kittle family.
Just recently I had found in a Hannah Kittle burial in Coloamer Cemetery, DeWitt, New York.Is this our Hannah?Where is her husband buried?
We were in Ottawa this summer and did some research while holidaying.I found in the Carp Review, Carelton County Advertiser this :
84th Birthday of James HAYES of Huntley last Monday.Father of Mrs. KETTLES of Ottawaa. "40 years ago Sept2, 1909). (Sept 1, 1949, p.4, co.5).
I also noticed that Bruce S. Elliott in his book, Irish Migrants in the Canadas cites Robert C. Kittle, Syracuse, NY as his source for William Hayes of Huntley.Do you know of any of Robert's writings -William Hayes of Huntley would have been Hannah's greatgrandfather.
I have quite a bit on the Hayes family and am actively working on this branch as I hope to get this album started and somewhat finished in 2009.
Sincerely,
Robert
