My wife's grandfather (Ernest Jackson - the son of Sarah Saunders Kitching) was wounded in France in 1918 and was evacuated to England on 28 March 1918. He spent 2 months in Richmond Hospital in Surrey and another month in a convalescent home in Eastbourne. While in one of these locations he was visited by an old Kitching uncle who was about 90yrs old and who arrived on a tricycle! Apparently the man lived to 94 yrs of age. I'm looking for the forebears of Ernest Jackson's mother: Sarah Saunders (Sally) Kitching b.UK 1848 who was the daughter of Dr Charles Watson Kitching - surgeon of London. Her mother was Rachel Austen. Both her brothers (Tom Kitching {Paarl} and Charles Watson Kitching {Beaufort West}) were doctors in South Africa. Dr Charles Watson Kitching the younger was at some point the guardian of Arthur Soulby Jackson (his future brother-in-law) in Beaufort West. Sarah (known as Sally) married Arthur Soulby Jackson in Dr Tom Kitching's home in Paarl on 13 Nov 1873 and died on 17 Aug 1885 in an accident. She died at Nelspoort, Beaufort West, South Africa. Any help gratefully received. Regards Jonathan Gale New Zealand. Jofajolu@amcom.co.nz Notify Administrator about this message?
