Hi Terreyl.
I'm afraid they probably did have slaves as they became rich plantation owners. The 2 gt gt gt.... uncles who went were:

1). John chr 21/6/1579 Burghfield, Berks., parents John KYRTON and ?Elizabeth Burton. He m Elizabeth SYMONS 16/7/1608 in Burghfield, and was in Barbados by 7/12/1648. He had: John chr 25/6/1609 Burghfield, Thomas , Charles and Dorothy. They're mentioned in John's sister's (Ann MYNDE nee KIRTON) will of 20/5/1640, proved 1646, and recorded in the Barbados Museum and Historical Society Journals, as were many other KIRTON wills of which I have a list. I also have a partial transcription of her will. I can forward these to you, I think (I'm not very good at computing!), if you'd like.

2). William, son of John and Ann's bro Griffen, also Griffith. He m 2nd wife Susan LEWIS 19/12/1644 in Christ Church Parish, Barbados, 3rd wife Elizabeth BROOKHAVEN, widow, in 1658, thus obtaining her former husband's Brookhaven plantation, and 4th wife Margaret PEAD in 1666 at St. Johns. Busy bloke! He was a member of the Colonial Council, and died in 1669 in Christ Church.

I descend illegitimtely from William's sister Mary/ Marie chr 28/12/1613 in Burghfield.

I haven't followed John and William's line further, only my direct line.

Hope this helps! Jay
