Cameron settlers/Charlie, Laura Kirtley
Someone must have a clue! I have found my great grandfather, Robert James Kirtley, to be buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron, Milam County, TX. Some of his children are buried next to him, plus highly likely, his parents. I believe his parents may be next to him--Charlie C. b. 1846, d.20 Apr.1921. His marker is worn to read as G.E. Kirtley. He was in Milam County death records as a nurseman. I think his wife may be Laura J. Kirtley, 1861-1923. Although she is 15 yrs younger, she died about two yrs after him and she was old enough to have been Robert James Kirtley's mother.I have learned that Robert James Kirtley owned an auto paint shop in Houston before he became too ill to work. He was buried in Milam County. In looking at Milam County, I find the town of Cameron was named after a man surnamed Cameron from the Scottish Highlands. I am wondering if my Charlie and Laura migrated to Milam County with Cameron. But did they migrate from other states before Texas? I suspect they did not come directly from Scotland but I know my grandfather, a younger Charlie Kirtley, was Scottish, all right. Does anyone have any clues or relationships to Charlie C. and Laura Kirtley? Thanks!
