Kirsch -> Kerce, USA via Carolina from Germany

Well hello,

To cut to the chase, the primary decendent, to the best of my knowledge, is George Kirsh, and a relative [son, cousin?] of the same name, who "migrated" from Germany either in 1742, 1760's - or both.

The name was altered from Kirsch to Kierce and to Kerce in a rather short period of time. That was rather common to establish your own "identity" as it were, and let's face it, they may have only been semi-literate and census takers back then were not exactly professionals...

The best I can determine is the Kirsch family is a Protestant family, were active in the crusades and were early Protestants and possibly even Monrovians - and so the famliy name is thus found in all the Protestant migration routes... mainly the UK and the States... but also, Australia, iirc.

So, if you are related to any "Kerce," specifically a George or Joseph from the South Carolina area - that seems to be the story. The Protestant were "granted" land in the Carolina's as part of the enclosures in Germany. So, if any of you German Kirsch's know of a George Kirsch who was granted land in the Carolina's [Charlestown] area in the 1740s, please chime in! I'd like to chase my roots back in Germany.

variations are Kierce, Kierse, Kearse, and mine, which is Kerce. Looks like we are all doing relatively rather well! :)
