Hello All,
Greg, I want to thank you again for the info that you have posted on the site.I have spent all morning going over it and comparing it to my notes.I have several census records on the Curwick family that have been sent to me from various people in Kansas.
I also wanted to add that Hippolite was married once or twice prior to his marriage to Susien.I was told this info by Rolland Trahoon, but do not know who gave him the information.he is the grandson of Emma Curwick.
Here are the census listings.
July 12, 1870 Silver Lake Township
Dwelling #12 family #72 Reel #18
9th US census
Paul Curwick 56 M W Farmer Canada
Susienage 35 F W Keep House Canada
Cleffe?14 F W DOmesticIllinois
Emma7 F WIllinois
Paul5 M WIllinois
Peter3 M WIllinois
Henry2 M WIllinois
Napoleon1/12 M WKansas
I believe that this Napoleon is my great grandfather. My grandfather's name seems to go from Joseph Napoleon to Napoleon Joseph.I am not even sure now what it is supposed to be.I also have been told that he was born on March 28th, but I have two conflicting dates of 1870, 1871(listed on a cemetery record) and 1876.The only thing I can think of is if the Napoleon on the census died and my great grandpa was born a year later in 1871.
My great-grandpa was also listed as Joseph N. Kerwick in the ecemetery records from St. Johns Cemetery in Webster Wisconson along with the name of his wife Caroline.
I also have a copy of Emma Curwicks death certificate. Her husband Jackson Trahoon has her father listed as James Kerwick, but he must have just not known his actual name.He didn't know her mothers name either.IT does list her birth as bein May 30th, 1863 in Cook COunty, Illinois.
Rolland Trahoon also gave me names of the children of HIppolite's before he was married to Susien. They are
Joseph
Alexander
Lewis
Mary
Zelda
Margaret. This names may have varied in spelling.I was speculating that Margaret may have been Marguerite? If you take a look at the date of the census and the age of Hippolite at the time, Hippolite would have been born around 1814.Meaning that these last children I listed could have been quite a bit older than the others.
I was also told that SUsien was his third wife and that she is supposed to be Pottawatomi Indian.I have not confirmed this yet.
I also have a census record for 1880 Pottowatomi County Kansas
It lists Andrew Curwick age 29 tinsmith, orn in Canada
his wife Emma age 20 born in MO. and a son Frederick also born in MO.
A 1900 census for Pott. Co., Kansas
Abraham Curwick age 30 farm labor b. KS
Elizza wife afe 24 b. Illinois June 1875
Alfred age 5, b. KS. March 1895
Napoleon 3, B. KS Jan 1897
Francis age 2, B. KS. May 1898
Later on a SS application I found another son named Clinton Charles b KS, Jan 25, 1916
I have also found an Edward Curwick age 32 on a 1860 census for NY.He was married to ANN and had children John, James, Annie, Edward and WM.
I hope this help =)
