I am descended from John Kirksey and Rebecca Cathey. I do not have any information on John Kirksey and would like to find out more about him.

In your posting of Jan. 22, 1999, you indicated that John and Rebecca had four children. You are correct about the four children, but they are not as you listed.

Their children were:

Martha G. Kirksey 1818- Feb 6 1844
Archibald Kirksey About 1818
William Kirksey 1826
John Kirksey 1828

You probably got your information from a Stewart County, Tenn. censes taken after 1844. (1850) Artery is Artennie Dixon born in 1838 and Ephriam Dixon (her brother) born 1844. These children were the grandchildren of John and Rebecca. Their daughter Martha is the mother of these children. She died in childbirth or shortly after Ephriam was born. After Martha died, her parents raised her children. This is where the confusion comes in, because the census taker did indicate the children's last name.

Artennie Dixon married John Henry Sikes. They are my great grand parents. Their son Benjamin Franklin Sikes is my grandfather.

I would appreciate information that you may have on John Kirksey and his family.

Thank you

Barbara Sykes Fisher
