The records on John and Lydia are some what confusing. The marriage record is December 1837 and they have a daughter 15 years old in 1850. They were listed as Kilpatrick in Newton County, Ga. in the 1850 census record page 485B. They were listed as Kirkpatrick in the 1860 Calhoun County, Ga. census record. The school records found at the Birmingham Library are I believe accurate as they are photo copies of the actual school records showing Caroline 15, Cynthia A. 13, and William 8 in 1852 Newton County, Ga. and they are named Kirkpatrick in these records. (I found another record that should be recorded: J. W. Kirkpatrick served in Capt. Dykes Co., Fla light Artillery with Camp Leon and Camp Ward being mentioned. These records are on microfilm at the B'Ham Library.) 1850 Census Newton Co., GA, Page485b John Kilpatrick 37, Susan 40, Mary 15, Caroline 13, Cynthia 10, William 8, John 6, Nancy 1/12, all born GA. This is the family. Curious to know what became of Mary and if she was a daughter from a previous marriage or maybe a sister of John. 1860 Census Town Dist., HH 94, Calhoun Co. GA John Kirkpatrick age 45, b. SC, Farmer, Lydia age 50, b. SC, William age 14, b. GA, in school, John age 12, b. GA, in school, Nancy age 10, b. GA, Thomas age 7, b. GA, Martha age 1, b. GA. Living next household is James L. Miller and wife Ann age 17 who I believe is Cynthia A. the daughter of John and Lydia. 1870 Have not located any of them except older daughter, Caroline Duncan, and son, William Kirkpatrick. Caroline and her family are in Randolph Co., GA and they later moved to Cass Co., TX after the 1870 census was taken. William was in Tallapoosa Co., AL and married Sarah Carter 5/5/1870. They were listed as William and Sarah Patrick on the 1870 census. 1880 Census Cass Co., TX John Kirkpatrick, Precinct 6, Cass, TX abt 1815 Georgia Head Katie Kirkpatrick, Precinct 6, Cass, TX abt 1823 North Carolina Wife I have no absolute proof that John remarried after Lydia died(?). Calhoun Co., GA marriage records were destroyed by fire when he may have remarried. This is maybe why I can't find the marriage record for Cynthia. I visited the Calhoun Co., GA courthouse and talked with the judge and was made aware of the destroyed records. I believe John is living next door to Jessie Taylor age 30 and Nancy Taylor age 28 and son John Taylor age 2 in Cass Co., TX. Also living close by is a Cynthia A. Willis, a widow, age 36, b. GA and her children. I have found the marriage record for Jessy and N. W. Kirkpatrick in Cass Co., TX. Until I find out for sure I am keeping these folks in my file and claiming them. I have been after a marriage record for any of them and finally found Nancy's. The fact that Caroline and her husband Jesse A. Duncan also moved to Cass then Bowie County lend more to my keeping these folks. Cynthia A. Willis(Miller maybe) I originally had her name in 1860 Calhoun Co., GA as James L. Willis and Ann, however, after looking at the census record it may be Miller and so could the census record for 1880 Cass CO., TX? I am open and hopeful that you could have the answer to the Miller family. Mary Kirkpatrick Notify Administrator about this message?
