Archibald KIRKLAND was born about 1780 in NC/SC. Archibald was a son of John KIRKLAND, SR. and Mary deLOT. John KIRKLAND, Sr. came with a brother to America from Scotland before 1776. Archibald's siblings included:Daniel KIRKLAND, born 22 March, 1783; and married Elizabeth PARKER.Robert KIRKLAND, born about 1785; Robert married (1) Jane LONG, (2) Nancy GARRISON, and (3) Rebecca SACKETT.John KIRKLAND, JR., born about 1787.Nancy Jane KIRKLAND, b. 1790, married Stephen Aucsborn BLEVANS.Jane KIRKLAND, b. about 1795, married Richard HALE.Sarah "Sallie" KIRKLAND, b. 12 November, 1797, married Mr. HIX.Archibald KIRKLAND married Mary CHANEY who died before 1848. Archibald died in 1848 in Fayette County, AL. Archibald and Mary were among the first interred in the Fayette Cemetery near its original entrance. The marker for each grave was two long slabs of native sandstone assembled with two triangular-shaped end pieces to form a tent over each grave. Archibald's will was probated 13 November, 1851, in Fayette County, AL.Archibald was listed on the 1805 Anderson County, TN, Tax List; 1810 Knox County, TN, Minutebook; and 1815 Bledsoe County, TN, Tax List. Archibald moved from Tennessee to Morgan County, AL, before moving to Fayette County. On February 11, 1833, Archibald made his first purchase of land in Fayette County, AL, and subsequently purchased 200 acres in 1834, 40 acres in 1835, and 120 acres in 1839, all in Fayette County, AL. Archibald and Mary had ten children:1. Virginia Jane C. "Jincy" KIRKLAND was born 1803 in TN. On 18 September, 1825, in Morgan County, AL, Virginia married, David MANASCO. Virginia died before 14 September, 1837, in AL..2. Elizabeth "Betsy" KIRKLAND, born 09 October, 1805, in TN, married (1) John Patterson MOORE on 19 October, 1826, in Morgan County, AL and married (2) William Mason BOX Elizabeth was buried Wafford Cemetery, Lamar County, AL.3. John R. KIRKLAND, born 1808 in TN, was a farmer and a sheriff of Fayette County. He married Ollie__?__, Ollie. John came from TN to Morgan County, AL, and then with his family to Fayette County, AL, before 1830. About 1851 John moved his family to Conway County, AR, then in 1853 to Bates County, MO, and later into Kansas where he died about 1883.4. Lavina KIRKLAND, born 10 June, 1810, in TN married Anderson FARQUHAR on 4 December, 1828, in AL. In 1852 the Farquhar family steamed down the Mississippi River to New Orleans into the Gulf of Mexico to Matagorda Bay. Up the Colorado River they went by boat to Fayette County, TX, remaining there two years before forging into the frontier of Burnet County, TX. Lavina died 12 September, 1892, in Burnet County, and was buried in the Cauble Cemetery, Burnet County, TX.5. Jehu Chaney "Hugh" KIRKLAND, was born 04 April, 1812, in TN. Jehu was a State Legislator and a farmer. About 1831 he married Permelia CHAPPELL. Jehu moved to Fayette County from Morgan County, AL, about 1830 and settled near Sipsey. Permelia was a woman of strength and fortitude. She bore 16 children and single handedly ran the farm and reared her children while her husband was off soldering and legislating. Jehu died 12 November, 1888, Fayette County, and was buried in the Siloam Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Winfield, AL.6. Daniel G. KIRKLAND, born 22 February, 1814, in TN, was a farmer, who first married Temperance LINDSEY on 15 November, 1839, in Fayette County; married second Tabitha Octavie Helene YERBY before 1848; married third Sarah DAVIS ; and married fourth Priscilla A. CHAMBLISS on 27 January, 1881, in Fayette County, AL. Daniel died 24 January, 1897, in Coryell County, and was buried Osage Cemetery, Coryell County, TX.7. Robert B. KIRKLAND, born in 1815, was a farmer, sheriff, and legislator. He married Amanda Melvina Fizallin STRIBLING, who was born 19 June, 1829, SC, and died 06 January, 1912, Waco, McLennan County, TX. Robert accidentally was shot as a bystander in an affray. Robert was sheriff, State Legislator, and was being considered as a suitable candidate for governor of Mississippi when he died from colic precipitated by the gunshot wound to his foot. He served in the MS State Legislature in 1850, 1856, and 1857. Robert died March, 1859, Philadelphia, Neshoba County, MS, and was buried in Old Philadelphia on the Pearl River.8. Mary Ann D. KIRKLAND, born 1816 in TN, married William Owens Moore 12 September, 1833, in Sipsey, Fayette County. William, born 11 May, 1816, TN, was a Methodist preacher, teacher, and farmer, who died about 1890, at Paradise, Wise County, TX. Mary Ann and William lived east of Sipsey and about 2 miles from Fayette until about 1860 when they bought land in the western part of Fayette County, AL. About 1878 they moved to Wise County, TX, via wagon train. They reared 21 children--including their 11, 7 orphan children of his brother, and 3 others. Mary died between before 1880, and was buried at Garvin, Wise County, TX.9. William Wilson KIRKLAND, MD. born 02 January, 1820, in TN/AL was a doctor and a farmer. On 14 September, 1837, in Winston County, MS, William married Polly Ann KELLUM, who was born 09 April, 1821, Tuscumbia, Colbert County, AL. Working in the field during the day, William studied at night to become a doctor. He began practicing medicine in Chickasaw County, MS, before moving to Pontotoc County, MS. William moved his family to Jennis Colony, AR, near the county line of St. Francis and Jackson Counties where in 1861 he was detailed for the militia, but was exempt because of his being a physician. In 1863 he moved to a farm near Waco where he purchased 257 acres. In 1874 William moved his family to Coryell County, TX. Polly Ann, died 21 June, 1893, Coryell County. William died 23 December, 1905, at Osage and was interred in the Osage Cemetery Coryell County, TX beside Polly Ann.10.
