Carol,
My grandfather was Thomas Joseph Kirk born in 1877 in KY.His parents were (supposedly) Joseph
(Joe) Kirk and Angeline McGillycuddy Kirk who came to USA in 1870's from Ireland.I say, supposedly, because
I can find nothing of them.Is there any chance you may have these names in your
genealogy? He said he was an only child and that he left home at 16 and worked with the
circus for awhile. He married Anna Scott of Ohio sometime before 1906.They had two children, John
Keith and Maribel Louise. Both children lived in Ohio.Keith is deceased and Maribel Louise
Tapp still lives in Belle Center. He became a dredgeboat and drag-line operator. He was working
in Lake Okeechobee,FL in 1920's or 1930's helping dredge Lake Okeechobee.Anna died at a
young age and he later married Mae Rice of Sardis, TN.He was helping dig canals here in TN at that
time. They had one daughter , Alma Lee Kirk, my mother.
He would never talk about his early homelife, so we figure something must have been very
painful about it.I don't know if he changed his name when he left home and worked with
the circus.We know nothing.
Can you help?We are desperate. Many thanks,
Joyce [email protected]
