I have been one of the many trying to determine who the John Kipp that married Lydia McPherson descended from. I thought that being from NY, he almost surely descended from the Kip/Kipp's of NYC (and the Netherlands prior to that). Learning that "word of mouth" from your family said that he was Dutch and descended from the DeKype's almost seems to confirm that beyond any doubt. Incidently, the DeKype's were originally French, but later moved to the Netherlands and came to the Colonies from there.
My interest in your John Kipp began because he was one of only 2 John Kipp's that I know of that left NY for Ontario. I descend from the other John Kipp (who married Ruth Carpenter). They came to Ontario around 1818, but also descend from the same DeKype family...so we're related somewhere WAY back.
Its my feeling that if we could just discover who your John Kipp's parents were, we could probably go way back from there because the line is very well documented in NY.
