Greetings all,

Researching the following members of the Kious Family. I have some pictures, handwritten articles and other items to trader for the same to add to everyone's family history.

I present my list in reverse order from most current to the Immigrant.

I am also including some questions for others to ponder and share any opinions as an answer.

married William Clark SMITH on 11 April 1943

2. James Fredrick KIOUS

28 March 1885 - ??

migrated to Canada to enlist with the troops in WW I, gassed twice by the Germans and left for dead both times, yet survived WWI to return to Virginia and clear land for high tension electric grid in WV and OH.

married Virginia Susan GWINN on 11 April 1911

3. Jacob Thomas KIOUS

5. Valentine KIOUS

14 September 1824 - 10 September 1875

6. Jacob Valentine KIOUS

1781 - 9 August 1864

married Susannah MILLER on 24 December 1811

7 Nicholas KIOUS

married Frances VALENTINE

8. John KIOUS (Kiaus, Kowes)

In a handwritten narrative by Esther Kious, she stated that "Kious (spelling) might have been derived from the Black Forest region of Germany, it also might have a Latin origin in meaning"

A poster to this message board stated that he had proof of the origin of "KIOUS (Sp)" and I am also interested in seeing this proof. I have the relevant copies of the text "A Waugh Family History" and more than happy to share the info with others who are unable to locate a copy for themselves.

One final question to all the KIOUS descendants; I am in the practice of tracing a ngenetic disorder that appeared in my Kious line involving eyesight. I ahev been diagnosed with this genetic disorder and word of mouth relaters that Esther KIOUS and her father also suffered from the same ailment. If anybody knows of any ancestors who suffered from poor birth vision, please let me know. I am more than willing to elaborate fully on this matter when contacted by e-mail.

A big thank you to all cousins by the dozens out there for taking the time to share some info, and the best of the hunt to each of you.

Andrew J. Walend
