Tom, for some odd reason it's taken more than seven years to respond to your post! Your observation is entirely correct and makes perfect sense. The castle overlooking Kintzheim and Rhein River valley was built by Charlemagne who was, of course, the ruler of the Franks and the first Holy Roman Emperor. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlemagne Many of the locals, though loyal French, still speak among themselves a form of Low-Allemanic German or Swabian dialect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alemannic_German Over the centuries "Koenig's-heim" or "King's home" corrupted into "Kintzheim" or "Kintz-home and thus our Kintz surname. -- Bill Kintz Jacksonville FL 32224 904-568-7325 wkintz@gmail.com ----------------------------------- Re: Links to Michael Kintz b.1732 in Alsace Posted by: Tom Kintz Date: January 07, 2001 at 08:54:28 In Reply to: Links to Michael Kintz b.1732 in Alsace by William L. Kintz of 193 Regarding Kintzheim, I thought this would be the root of the Kintz's. I visited Kintzheim and discovered that kintz is an archaic form of the word koenig meaning king. Charlimaign (sp?) built a castle behind Kintzheim and the name comes from that fact. There were no people named Kintz in the phone book! . ..tom kintz -- Bill Kintz Jacksonville FL 32224 904-568-7325 wkintz@gmail.com Four-minute YouTube video of my backyard retreat! http://youtube.com/watch?v=0yC4b-pUtzo Notify Administrator about this message?
