Eleanor Kinnan/Cannon b. abt 1760 in NY
I am looking for ties to an Eleanor Kinnan in Sussex Co, NJ b abt 1760 in either NY or NJ. The information I have on her is her father was John Kinnan/Cannan.
She m. John Chamberlain (unsure of marriage location, either eastern NY or Northern NJ for sure) My Chamberlain's were from the Amenia NY area, But John Chamberlain b. 1759 went to Yale College and ran away while a young man to join the Patriots during the Revolutionary War. He was captured by the British at the Battle of Brandywine, and put on a POW ship in Delaware Bay until his release or escape. I think he may have made his way to Sussex Co NJ. Somewhere along the way he met and married Elenor Kinnan/Cannan. He became a Teacher after the War. A John Chamberlian shows upin the 1774 & 1778 Sussex Co Tax lists and I think it is him. I know John and Eleanor's
son, also John (my gggg) married his wife, Mary Little in Newton, Sussex Co, NJ.
I believe this Eleanor to be related to possibly the NJ Kinnan's in the area, although I have her birthplace as NY, so it has been confusing to say the least. I do have her father's name was John Kinnan or Cannan.
Does anyone have an Eleanor b abt(say 10 years plus or minus) this time in this area
who was d/o a John Kinnan? I do not have this John Kinnan's spouse unfortunately so it has been difficult.
Thanks for all replies!!
Penny
