Hi Eileen,
William Aaron Kingsland lived on 1st Ave in New York City in 1880.He lived in Hempstead, N.Y. in 1900.William worked for the Lackawanna and New York Central Railroads and moved to Canada around 1905, where he worked for the Great Northern Railway of Canada and the Quebec and Lake St. John Railway, which became part of the Canadian National System in 1923.He became Vice President of the Canadian National Railways in 1936.
He married Mary Loretta O'Reilly Regan and had 11 children.
His father was Aaron (born 1842)Kingsland,(Jr), who married Sarah Jones and had 3 children.
Aaron, (Jr.)'s father was also named Aaron (born 1805)and he married Elizabeth Ann Fowler Cottrell and had 10 children. This was the Aaron who had a store in the Fulton Fish Market, but did NOT own the fish market.Aaron owned a store in the Fulton Fish Market and in the 1850 census was a fisherman, born in N.Y. and lived in Brooklyn, N.Y.The New York City, New York 1859 City Directory shows his address as 265 Pearl, Brooklyn.
Aaron (born 1805)is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, next to his wife, Elizabeth.
From the Old Sands Street Methodist Episcopal Church of Brooklyn, N.Y. : an illustrated centennial record, historical and biographical about Aaron (born 1842);
Joined Sands Street Church about 1843.He was not learned, but was remarkable for practical, common sense, integrety and benevolence.He was a wholesale fish dealer, but his diligence in business did not interfere with his devotions.He hired a room convenient to his office, Fulton Market, as a place which he could retire for meditation and prayer.His habit was to pray every time he came into his house from his business.He kept a charity fund, and gave away one-tenth of his income.He died in 1868, age 63.
This Aarons' father was Isaac Joseph Kingsland and mother was Mary Parker.
Isaac's father was also named Aaron (born 1755)who married Margrietje C. Joralemon and had 5 children.
Aarons father was Isaac who married Hannah Crane and had 9 children.
Isaacs father was also named Isaac (one of very many in the history of the Kingsland line).He and wife Elizabeth had 7 children.Isaacs' brother, Gustavus Kingsland came with Isaac to America from Barbados so Isaac could reclaim his uncle, Major Nathaniel Kingslands property in New Barbadoes, N.J. which was under the care of Maj. Sandford (which has many spellings).This is now in an area called the Meadowlands.
Maj. Nathaniel Kingslands' brother, Robert, was the father of Gus and Isaac and Robert was the captain of the ship, Judith out of London.
He and his wife died, leaving Isaac and Gus under the care of Nathaniel (one of many Nathaniel Kingslands in this line).Nathaniel had 17 children and was quite fond of Isaac and left 1/3 of his land in N.J. to him.Isaac gave brother, Gus, a share of his inheritance.
I have a picture of the first home Isaac built in N.J.
Right now there is still the Kingsland Manor which can be toured and in the 1970's family reunions were held there.
I have taken this line back to Adam, so have quite a bit on them.
They originally were Barnewall, Viscount Kingslands, but name changed when they came to America, but some Barnwalls went to S.C. where you can still find a Barnwall Co. named after Matthew Barnewall, if I remember correctly.I have worked on my husbands line for many years and actually have your parents in my database, but not you.
My email is [email protected] if you want to correspond, Judy Kingsland
