The letter in question is dated 1800 at Mecklinburg Co. NC. It is signed by Samll KINGSBURY (or it appears to be Samll I can send you a scan). It is addressed to Andrew KINGSBURY Esqr Treasurer of the State Connecticut City of Hartford. Beautifully written by obviously educated man, but who is he? Clues "Worthy Sir -Kindred is a tie of Blood.....my fourth attempt at contacting you...times of misfortune that have attended me during a life without parents.....distance I have placed myself from them ought to inform them that is is my desire not to sully the Glory they may require...He describes an illness of a year which he contracted after a voyage on the Betsey from Hartford to the Carribeen Islands and that he is now in NC. Misses hearing from sisters (but could they be cousins instead?) Andrew has several girls. Then "I remain single and without an intent of changing that siutation till the Death of ( it looks like Bring Cause?) when asked on that subject my reply is I have a sweetHeart at home and further saith not and desire no better Explanation by you if you answer this epistle if Death hath Obliterated Her memory or A change in Her Circumstances hath taken place it will be no disagreeale news to your well wishing friend..." A great letter...but who is he and what is going on? I know that Oliver had a son Samuel and that Oliver died leaving them young; but I just can't figure this out.
