Scottish Emigrants to America

Seeking any info on the military services provided, in colonial days, by a family named McCutchin/Scutchin/Cutchin, etc. I don't know the resource books to study to find this info, or, where to write. The only two pieces of info I have are: the given name is either Samuel, or, Thomas, and the 2nd piece of info is: possible date of 1610.

I really am stumped. I don't know the name of the ship they boarded and came to America. That might help tell WHERE they settled, leading to what battles were fought in that area which they probably participated in.

Should I research this first? -- the ship's name? Then the location? -- and finally, the war?

Somebody give me some suggestions -- help! I hope all of the above helps you.

If you prefer, you are welcome to email me at: hargettcecil@windstream.net
Thanks so much!
