Stephen King & Mary Lilly family of Estill KY

I am in search of a Stephen King born before 1815. He was married to a Mary Lilly who died about 1835. He was the father of William Sanford King born 8 Jan 1832 in Estill County. WSK's son Samuel Francis King says in KY History 1922, Volume 3 that his father's mother died when he was about 3. He also says that WSK parents lived all their life in Estill County. WSK again say he was born in Estill when he married in 1855 in Clark County to Sarah Bradley. Then WSK death certificate says that his father was Steve King and mother Mary Lilly.

1860 Clark 866 454 454 William S KING 27ky, Sallie 22ky,, Samuel F 4, Mary E 2, James H 1/12
1870 Clark 13 184 185 William S KING 38ky, Sarah 33, Sam F 15, Mary E 12, James H 10, Martha A 9
1880 Bourbon Paris : William S. KING 49KY,KY,KY, Laborer, Sallie 45KY, Samuel F.23KY , Marry E.22KY , James H20KY , Crittenden Nephew 20KY,KY,KY
I have never been able to ID my William S King in ANY 1850 census.

Lets check out all the "Stephen" King I can find.

==============================
:-( Robert Stephen King: He was in Bourbon Co. before 1830. He can be found there in tax list with several of his older sons before his 1845 marriage in Clark County to Sarah Crutchfield. I don’t think RSK is the father of my William S. King. I can ID most of RSK’s children age from early census records and WS King doesn’t fit. It’s possible that was an uncle or grandfather. Both RSK’s second wife and WSK’s wife have an Owen family connections. Both RSK and WSK families have members buried in the Owen Cemetery. Robert Stephen King has a male in his 1830 household born 1810-1815. The very minimal age for WSK’s father would put him born before 1815. 1839 Bourbon tax list show a Stephen King living near RSK. 1839 was the only time Stephen was listed in Bourbon tax list. I did not locate him there in 1840 census. RSK is found in Clark County census in 1850.

:-( Stephen King who was in Estill County in 1830's. Could this be the Stephen King that married Mary Lilly?

First marriage in Estill to a Stephen was...

Permissive Notes-Jeremiah King 08 March 1832 for son Stephen to marry {Prudy Anne Hawkins, S/ John Hawkins
To have married in 1832 he would have to have been born before 1815. This one is marry 2 month after my WSK is born. Doesn't quite fit the 3 year story, beside that this is Jeremiah King's line and y-dna show I am not related to Jeremiah/Joseph Family

1834KY, Estill-- tax list Major, Jeremiah, Zack, Jer.JR, Nathan, William, Skiler, Jacob, Samuel, WM JR, Samuel, Joshua, Benjamin, Stephen, Tucker,
1840 KY, Estill--58 STEPHEN F 2100100000000 2000101000000 20/30
He would have 3 boys and 2 girls born between 1830-40, he would have been born after 1810

1847 Estill Co. -- court record - lawsuit - BY Hiram Stevens VS Banister Packett & Joshua Barnett, Witness Stephen King and James Lilly . (Where is Stephen in 1850???????????????????????????) What happen here?? None of these can be found in the 1850 Estill Co. census except for James Lilly. (Banister Puckett married Fanny King in 1838)

(is this Stephen who married Elizabeth Elkins and they are in 1850 Montgomery or Stephen F who married Elizabeth Potts and is in Clark in 1850). NOTE the LILLY connection here

==============================
:-( Stephen Francis King born 1827, married 1846 to Elizabeth Potts. SFK seems to know my WSK. They had children that married, surely not first cousins. Y-dna show that SFK is related to Joseph/Jeremiah King family. Y-DNA shows I am not!

1850 Clarke 63 209 Francis (S.F.) 25ky, Elizabeth 21, Thomas 3, John 2 (Estill By 1860)

1880 Estill, (Crooked Creek)Francis 54KY/KY/KY, (Blacksmith) Elizabeth 55, William 21, James H 20, Crittenden 18, Lucy 14, Marion 11, Ann Clay 8 Frances can not write (NOTE: Crittenden King married Mary Elizabeth (Betty) King)

==============================
:-( The next Stephen King I find is the one in Montgomery in 1850 and 1860. If he is the one that married Elizabeth Elkins 28 Dec 1846 in Estill Co., KY, it would seem likely he could be one that living there in 1840, It appears he is missing a son born 1832-1840.

1850 Montgomery 70 376-376 Stephen 37KY Elizabeth 23, Richard 17, Eliza.14, Wm13, Nancy 10, Henry 7, John 5, Stephen 1, Mary 3/12

==============================
:-( Reaching really far out..... And I include this because it is the only King-Lilly married I can find. One again this is Jeremiah King's family and Y-dna show I am not related to that group of King's
John "S". King

married…Lucy Lilly 14 Apr1827 Estill, Consents Jeremiah King and William Lilly, Surety was Jeremiah Jr., James Smith

There were several different “ John King”, they have been confused over the year , not sure who was who. Here are some … married …
…Lucy Southern 4 Nov 1810 Madison
…Jane skinner 6Oct 1838 Estill
…Lucy Lilly 14 Apr1827 Estill, Consents Jeremiah King and William Lilly, Surety was Jeremiah Jr., James Smith
---Lucinda Morgan 4 Oct 1849 Boone IN

==============================
Because it thought that one of the John King of Estill Ky went to Boone IN, I want to include this Stephen King found in 1850 in Boone County IN. :-(

1850 IN, Boone – 1759-1781 Twp 7 th Dist #186 Stephen 45VA Martha 32PA, John 20TN, Caroline17, Andrew J 16IN, Louisa J 14, Melivna 11, Amanda 9 Sarah e 2, Phillip 1. This family looks to have been in TN in in 1830's. He doesn't seem to be the Stephen King I am searching for.

==============================
Now I am really at a dead end, I have been stuck here since I began researching almost 30 years ago. I did y-dna a few years ago in hopes of a match to give me some new clues. To date I never had a match..... Not even one without the King surname! That is really odd.

Kelly
