A biography/family history of Emil O. Kindschy is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 2.
Emil was born, 1 June 1881, Montana Township, WI, to Christ and Margaret (von Wald) Kindschy, natives of Switzerland. Christ was born 1836 and came to the US with his family, settling in Sauk County, WI, in 1845. As a young man, he located to a homestead in Buffalo County, WI, and in later years became prosperous in dairy farming. He married Margaret von Wald in Fountain City, WI. Margaret died in 1888, at age 44. Christ died in 1912, age 76.
Emil, the sixth of seven children, was educated in Buffalo County, WI, and at age 16 became a teacher in that county. In Feb 1901, he located to Lewistown, MT, and became a teacher in the Fergus County schools. After 4 years of teaching, he turned to employment in the cattle ranching & farming business. He returned to Wisconsin for a year to visit his father and relatives but came back to Lewistown, MT, where he worked for the Abel Brothers for 3 years. In 1913, he set up a successful monument business.
On 25 Apr 1905, Emil married Miss Ursula Camastral, who was born in Switzerland and was brought to the US at age 11. Kindschy children: Lillian, Ruby, Doris, Emil O., Jr.
