Cynthia,

re:Would you tell me what court document refers to Israel and Henry in 1839? Would that be in Cape Girardeau County?

Perhaps "court document" was a little too ambitious a description, the reference is made in the Journal (1833-1849) of Casper Schell, Jr. Justice of the Peace in Cape Girardeau County. This Journal was transcribed by Lorena and Otis Eaker in 1979 and substantial portions of the transcription are included in her book "The Shoe Cobbler's Kin" Vol II (1985) page 789. Successive entries on Journal
"page 112, dated August 1839, for Jacob Rhoads J.P. list:
Summons Henry Kinder, paid .25
Summons Isreal Kinder, paid .25"
Without further context, this only proves Israel Kinder was in CGM in August, 1839 and probably in close proximity to Henry Kinder.

But is this the same Israel Kinder, father of Emanuel, referenced in the Goodspeed bio.? I don't think so for several reasons. First, this 1839 Journal entry is the earliest reference to Israel Kinder that I have run across. Israel appears, as a male head of household, first in the 1850 Cape Co. census and is listed as age 32, born in MO. Listed in the household are Fannie (f) age 38 born in NC; Henry H (m) age 9 born in MO; Andrew G (m) age 5 born in MO; Elizabeth Rhoades (f) age 20 born in NC; and finally Andrew Cosner (m) age 71 born in NC.

In the 1860 Bollinger Co. census Israel is recorded as age 56?! Listed in the household are Fannie (f) age 57? born in ???; Henry H (m) age 18; Jarel M (m) age 10; Mahala Masters (f) age 14; and finally Andrew Costner (m) age 76 born in NC.

I found no other instances of Israel Kinder in the 1850 or 1860 Cape and Bollinger census rolls. The census information clearly contradicts the Goodspeed bio. information for Israel and there is no mention of Emanuel in the census recordings for Israel, so I can only conclude we are looking at two separate and distinct Israel Kinder families.

re: Also, have you posted or transcribed your Kinder Bible records online?

The results of the Kinder Bible transcriptions (performed by my Grandmother and Aunt) were used as the basis for the Kinder line which can be found at

or when the server is not acting up at http://www.fredkinder.com/kinder_family/

Fred Kinder
