Anyone searching for black Kimmonses has to read this: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ewyatt/_borders/Texas%20Slave%20Narratives/Texas%20K/Kimmons,%20Richard.html It's written by Richard Kimmons, a former slave, who was born in Lawrence County, Missouri "about fourteen years before de Civil War." He tells who his father and mother were but doesn't know about any ancestors further back. He also says: "I married Emma Norton at Gatesville de next year or a little more atter de war broke out. We had seventeen chillun in all an' seven are alive (1937). I had two wives." There is a lot of info about the (white) Robert Kimmons family, too. It's a very interesting, but brief, personal narrative about Richard's life around the time of The Civil War. If you have any difficulty accessing the site, let me know. (The Hannah Kimmons who married the Redfearn I think was white. If she wasn't I'd be very interested in knowing about her.) Nancy Pundsack Notify Administrator about this message?
