I am looking for more information on the Evans branch of my ancestry. I know that John arrived in the United States in 1820 aboard the ship, Master and Commander. He may have spent a little time in Tennessee before his migration to Carrollton in Greene County, Illinois. His father, John L Evans died in Greene County, Illinois around January 1832. He had brought thirty thousand dollars worth of gold from Ireland and was probably one of the area's wealthiest men. John L Evans (who died in 1832) had at least 3 children, one being John and the others being Thomas and William. John L Evans' wife's name was Nancy Ann. His son William married Eliza Scott in 1825. I don't know who Thomas married. My ancestor, John went back to Ireland to marry a woman named Ann. Her last name might have been Billings. John and Ann had at least 8 children; Ann Mariah (who married an R B Benedict), Margaret Jane (b.1828 and married Calvin Page Heaton), Mary Eliza (who died 3 yrs old), Suzanne (who died in her first year), Mary Cecilia (b. 1832 and married Alonzo Lincoln Kimber), John (b. 1836 and married Margaret B Heaton), Lucy P (b. 1838 and married Egbert G Sprague) and William E (who died in the Civil War). Any help would be greatly appreciated.
