Charles J. Kimball (changed spelling to Kimble)
Hi All,
Several years ago I posted the following link asking for help in finding the ancestors of my 3G grandfather, Charles Jackson Kimball.
Charles Jackson Kimball born 2-14-1817

Ditty Riggs responded with the following post.

I followed up by emailing Ditty and she sent me all this great info on Charles J. Kimball who was born in Gibson Co., IN and his ancestors. I was really excited and one of my favorite research subjects is this Charles J. Kimball's grandfather, Jesse Kimball.

If you search the "Indiana Magazine of History: Jesse Kimball — Pioneer" link above for Charles Jackson Kimball, you will see that Isaac Kimball claims that his nephew Charles Jackson Kimball is living in Greencastle, IN in the 1880s. This link also shows that in Jesse Kimball's bible it has Charles J. Kimball born 8 Aug 1815. This didn't match the info I have on my 3G grandfather, Charles Jackson Kimball who was born 14 Feb 1817 and was listed in Shelby Co., IA Census Records for both 1870 and 1880.

So... the Charles J. Kimball who was born in Gibson Co., IN moved to Putnam Co., IN and changed the spelling of his name from Kimball to Kimble. However, all is not lost in my years of research on this line, as Charles J. Kimble's wife was Mariah (Maria Louisa) Welborn (Jesse York, John, William, Edward) and my grandfather was Arthur Atchley Welborn (Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, Johnson, Jonathan, Edward Levi, Thomas, Edward). Distant cousins?

I also think that my 3G grandfather, Charles Jackson Kimball is probably a descendant of Richard Kimball and Ursula Scott as are the Kimball's of Gibson Co., IN. However, the earliest info I have on him is that he married Sarah Sewell (d/o John Sewell and Delight Piefer) in Martin Co., IN on the 11th of July 1841. Charles is listed in the 1850 and 1860 Halbert Twp, Martin Co., IN Census Records. There are no Kimballs listed in 1840 Martin Co., IN Census records according to Nancy Baker who does Martin Co., IN lookups. Thanks Nancy! In the 1830 Martin Co., IN Census I found a John Sewell with what looks like three daughters and in the 1820 Martin Co., IN Census I found a Harvey Kimball and it looked like he had three young sons.
Following is the list of children I have for Charles Jackson Kimball and Sarah Sewell. Charles and Sarah are buried at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Kirkman, Shelby Co., IA.
Hanniball Kimball (16 Jan 1843 IN - 27 Jan 1863)
Chatham Kimball (11 May 1845 IN - 1927)
William Penn Kimball (14 Oct 1849 IN - 16 Dec 1915 IA)
Anna Elizabeth Kimball (29 Jun 1852 IN - 2 Feb 1934)
Thomas Franklin Kimball (7 Aug 1855 IN - 19 Nov 1940 IA)
Samuel Sewell Kimball (9 Nov 1857 IN)
Elijah (Elizah) Kimball (4 May 1860 IN - 4 May 1860 IN)
Elisha Kimball (4 May 1860 IN - 4 May 1860 IN)
Charles Albert Kimball (29 Dec 1861 IN - MN)
I show in my notes that Chatham Kimball (my 2G grandfather) married Elizabeth "Lizzie" Childers (d/o Moses Childers and Mary) on the 27th of March in 1866. Nancy Baker (researcher from Martin Co., IN) told me that the Childers family may have come from Washington Co., IN. I believe the Nathan Kimball that is listed in the 1860 Martin Co., IN Census records is from Washington Co., IN. I wonder if Nathan Kimball and Charles Jackson Kimball could be brothers?

Does anyone have any additional information that might help me determine the parents of my 3G grandfather, Charles Jackson Kimball?
Thank you,
Tom
