Dear Mr Ainsworth
Thank you for your information
Thomas Kilvert initially came to Wales to work as a farm labourer based at Lord's Park farm in Llanstephan. From there he moved to work at Tanylan Farm, St Ishmael near Ferryside Carmarthenshire. He remained there retiring at the age of 72.He died in November 1967.Thomas wife was Mary Jayne(Davies) my mother was Elizabeth Mary and she married my father George Glanmor Phillips in 1939.
My mother Mary died in July 1995 she had seven children four boys and three girls.I can remember James and Jessie staying with Thomas at Lookout Cottage in St Ishmael on a number of occasions. I can also recall my mother mentioning Grace and Mary .
I was quite intrigued to learn that Tom's nickname was TICKY - something that I was not aware of.
Tom never lost his Mancunian accent even though he was a fluent Welsh speaker.
My mother had a brother John and a sister Gwendoline (Gwen)
John who was a railway worker had two sons Derrick and Brian-both still live in the area. Gwen who married a Mancunian(Norman Ward)went back to live in Manchester had one son Alan. Her husband Norman died suddenly in 1961/2, and they (Gwen, Alan and family )moved to Leicester.I lost touch when my grandmother (Mary Jayne)died in August 1971
Kind regards
Peter
