Chip, Thank you so much for posting this. I am so excited to finally make contact with a descendant of Madison! I've looked a long time trying to find a descendant through Madison or Louisa. They seemed to be the two that kept the history of the family going, and I'm hoping that your family might have more records of Madison. The letters that he wrote certainly sound just like the personality described in the obituary. Several of us researching have been stumpted to go back any further than Madison's father, and I keep hoping we find that clue that will keep us going.
You are also distantly related to another president through Madison's mother, Martha Stokes Scott Kilpatrick. She was a descendant of Nicholas Martiau through his daughter Mary, while George Washington was a descendant through his daughter Elizabeth. Nicholas Martiau was the earliest ancestor of George Washington to live in America. I'm working on the Stokes line now. Let me know if you would like a copy of what I have and I'll e-mail it too you.
