I'm just listening to a show on CBC (Canadian public radio). The speaker is saying that his surname Killick has the meaning of "small anchor" in his native province of Newfoundland.
Today there are 100 KILLICK surnames in Canada's phone listings, but none in Newfoundland - http://canada411.sympatico.ca/eng/person.html - shows 35 in British Columbia on the Pacific coast, 28 each in Ontario and Alberta, 6 in Saskatchewan, 2 next door in Manitoba, and 1 lonely one in Québec, near the USA border.
Who knows more about the origins of the Canadian KILLICK names ? Did they start as imports from Scotland, Ireland, or England coming to places like Newfoundland, then did they move westward ?
