Dear Sirs,Since we share the same surname, I am writing to you to request information about family history. My name is Sergei Georgievich Kilian (Kiliyan). I live in the city of Krasnodar, Kuban region of Russia. I am continuing the task of compiling the family tree which was begun by my grandfather, Ivan Semenovich Kilian (possible Kiliyan) (born in 1895).
I would sincerely appreciate any information you can provide concerning the Russian branch of the Kilian (also used spelling Kiliyan) family. If you know of any ancestors who might have settled in Russia in the 18th or 19th century (perhaps in Ukraine or in the Russian Far East) please let me know.
Although there are several branches of the family in Russia, as far as we can tell all descend from one ancestor. His very probable that the name Kilian (Kiliyan) is a shortened from of the surname Kiliani. His possible that our ancestors came from an Italian-speaking region.
If you know of any genealogical organizations or societies that could be of help, please let me know.
I thank you in advance for any assistance you can provide.
RespectfullyS.Kilian (Kiliyan)
