In Reply to: Prince Alphonso (Philip Albert) Kilgore; Lewiston, Maine by Robert Bailey of 2422

Robert - I was able to find a bit for you.

1900 LEWISTON, ANDROSCOGGIN, ME - 162 Bartlett
KILGORE
Freeman B. age 57, born Dec. 1842 married 9 years, born NE parents both born ME, cannot read his occupation

Ellen, wife, age 29, married 9 years, 4 children born 4 living, born Feb. 1871, Canada parents both born Canada, immigrated 1884

Freeman B. son age 8 born June 1891 ME

Prince A. son age 6 born Sept. 1893 ME

Gordan B. son age 3, born July 1896 ME

Ethel G. daughter, age 2, born Nov. 1897 ME

all these children show both parents born ME

1910 LEWISTON, ANDROSCOGGIN, ME - 184 Bartlett
KILGORE
Freeman, age 62, auctioneer, houses, married 18 years, second marriage, born ME parents both born ME

Ellen, wife, age 39, married 18 years, first marriage, 4 children born 4 living, born Canada both parents born Canada immigrated 1890

Freeman, son age 17 cutter shoe shop, born ME

Gordon, son age 12, born ME

Lewis, son age 9 born ME

all children show both parents born ME
** Prince is not with them and I could not find him in 1910 census under Prince or under Philip or under Albert so I don't know where he was

I don't know if you want the census records for Philip and his wife Florence but let me know and I can copy them for you. I see he was with her in 1930, but in 1920 she and kids were with her parents and he was elsewhere as a boarder

1880 LEWISTON, ANDROSCOGGIN, ME
KILGORE
Freeman, age 35, boarder, auctioneer, born ME

Lydia R. wife age 30, seamstress born ME

Cora, daughter age 16, born ME

all of them show both parents born ME

1870 LEWISTON, ANDROSCOGGIN, ME
KILGORE
Freeman, age 27, jobber born ME

Mary F. age 27, seamstress born looks like New Brunswick, but may mean Brunswick ,Maine ???

Cora, age 4, born ME

William E. age 5/12 born ME

** so it looks like Freeman was actually married 3 times not 2 as he says in 1910 census.

1860 LEWISTON, ANDROSCOGGIN, ME
KILGORE
Ezra C. age 53, Boarding, born ME

Sophronia, age 43 born ME

Ezra A. age 24, Fcty. operative, born ME

Emily age 24, born ME

Susan B. age 19, born ME

Freeman B. age 17 born ME

John P. age 13 born ME

Frank age 7 born ME

Rolla age 3 born ME (this is a male - thought you would want to know as name is odd)

looks like they were running a rather large boarding house

1850 BRIDGTON, CUMBERLAND, ME
KILGORE
Ezra C. age 44, rock cutter, ME

Sophrona age 33, born ME

Ezra F. age 14, born ME

Mary age 12, born ME

John age 13, born ME

Susan age 9 born ME

Freeman age 7 born ME

I am guessing from this that Emily and Mary are the same person but why she is shown same age as Ezra in one census and 2 years younger next is a bit of a mystery but then census records are always a little off. Also I double checked John P. in both 1850 and 1860 and he is shown as 13 in both which is off too.

1870 LEWISTON, ANDROSCOGGIN,ME
KILGORE
Ezra C. age 64, brick mason born ME

Sophronia age 54, house keeping, born ME

Frank age 17 brick mason born ME

1880 LEWISTON, ANDROSCOGGIN,ME - Pleasant Street
KILGORE
Ezra . age 74, farmer born ME parents both born ME

Sophronia age 64, born ME parents both born ME

I also found the following:

U.S. ARMY REGISTRATION 1798-1914
Truman B. Kilgore born Pennor, Maine
enlistment: Nov. 8, 1861, age 19
Enlistment place: Lewiston, Maine
Occupation:pressman
Blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5'8"

17th infantry Maine, Union
Truman deserted Aug. 15, 1862 and was apprehended Aug. 18, 1862. He deserted again Sept. 20, 1862. It does not say what happened after that.

You could send for his Civil War papers. I have done so for two of my ancestors and the papers had a lot of family info included.
My g-g-grandfather was also listed as a deserter but the records showed he was found in a hospital in TN and reinstated with full standing. Somehow they had lost track of the fact he was sent to hospital.

There is a One World Tree for this family on ancestry.com but it has some errors for sure.

Some of what it has:
Freeman Blake Kilgore born Dec. 17, 1842 Penobscot, ME (I suppose the Pennor, ME from his army registration likely means Penobscot)
died Feb. 28, 1928 Auburn, Androscoggin, ME

married:
1) Mary F. born June 15, 1843 died Nov. 11, 1872

2) Lydia M. Jones born Feb. 11, 1847 died May 28, 1885
married: Dec, 7, 1873 Lisbon, Androscoggin, ME
children: Cora born 1874, Methyl gertrude born 1877 , John Freeman born 1880

*** Cora was in both 1870 and 1880 census and birth year would be more like 1864 than 1874, also there is a son William E. in 1870 and this tree does not mention him.
** the Methyl Gertrude mentioned is likely Ethel G. from 1900 census - age 2, daughter of Freeman and 3rd wife Ellen so born 1897 not 1877

3) Ellen Kelly born 1867 Ireland died 1949 Lewiston
children:
Freeman Blake 1893, Gordon @ 1895, Prince Alphonso Sept. 19, 1898, Otis 1903

*** we know that Prince was born 1893 according to 1900 census
*** there is a son Lewis in 1910 census - this may be Otis??

Ezra Carter Kilgore born Sept. 6, 1805 Lovell, Oxford, ME, died Nov. 18, 1874 Lewiston
** we know he was alive in 1880 census so could not have died 1874.

Sophronia Blake bor Nov. 3, 1816 died Feb. 15, 1888 Lewiston
married Sept. 27, 1832 Lovell, Oxford, ME

There is more going back to earlier generations as well. As you can see there were several names and dates in this tree that do not agree with census records but I have given you the info to look at and decide what you want to take from it. I know census records are not always right but for instance Cora would not be in 1870 census if she was not born until 1874.

I hope this is of some help to you.

Carolyn
